What I love most about this record is that it is intimidating and sharp-edged but it’s also very clear that the band had a lot of fun making these songs. There’s a kind of vandal’s glee to Blue Dolphin, a sense of destruction, of being on the run but maybe laughing the whole time? I always feel so out of control when I listen to ‘Robert’s Lafitte,’ the band just wields so much force, some of the cool persistence that you find on ‘Youth of America’ era Wipers, and some of that raw flurry of notes that makes every Dicks song feel tougher than you or me. Delinquent, buzzed, powerful. Completely irresistable.
